The symbol is not the fact.

The map is not the territory. This is the most simple example of the difference between a symbol and a fact.

The problem is we have a populace addicted to symbolism.

It started way before any of us were born, generations and ages ago. It began the elusive moment language began, the moment the first syllable of the first word was formed in a mind.

The wall proposed to run the total of the border between the USA and Mexico would be ineffectual as a deterrent to illegal immigration. It's not only proven to be ineffectual, it's also obviously ineffectual. However, even after being shown this, there are many who still believe the very expensive wall is a good idea. I've pursued several of these false believers to find why they believe this, and discovered they believe the SYMBOL of the wall is a good idea. To THINK of the wall makes them think they are safer from a South American influx of immigrants. And to think desperate immigrants will think of the wall as a deterrent is yet another level of symbolism confusion.

We who see this need to speak with them, to show them this symbolism confusion need not continue, and that there are better things ahead, and that they will be happier without the bias and fear their false symbolism brings.

Remember, be kind. They have an addiction.
